People will be skeptical if you mention positive thinking or mental methods to most people. This is usually due to ignorance and lack of understanding, rather than positive thinking. Also, don’t dismiss it until you have tried it. When it comes to losing weight, don’t underestimate your mind’s power. If you want to lose weight permanently, it is important to have a strong mental approach. If you don’t have a positive outlook, it is easy to fail when you try to change your diet or start an exercise program.
Your new healthy lifestyle should be viewed as a positive experience and not a punishment. Instead of focusing on the food you’re missing and the exercise you don’t want, think about the positive effects losing weight will have on you health and how great it will make your body feel. Visualization is a powerful mental tool that can help you lose weight permanently. Every great invention that we enjoy in our modern lives together started as an idea and a visualization. Visualization helps us see possibilities beyond our current situation. It gives us the courage and belief to dream big and to take positive action to make those dreams come true.
Let’s now see how visualization works. Visualization is easy. All you have to do is use your imagination to create the outcome you desire in your life. This technique is used by many of the top athletes in the world. Visualization works because your brain cannot tell the difference between what it is imagining and what it is actually seeing. Let me give you an example of the power and effectiveness of visualization. Dr Blaslotto (of University of Chicago), conducted a famous study on basketball performance. The players were divided into three groups and judged on the number of free throws they made at that moment. This was followed by another 30 days.
Let’s understand it
The first group practiced free throws for one hour every day over the course of the 30 days. The next group visualized themselves making free shots for an hour each morning, while the last group did nothing. All three groups were then judged on the number of free throws they could hit after 30 days. The group that did nothing showed no improvement, while the group that had practiced free throws had a 24% increase. The group that simply visualized making free shots (without touching a basketball) saw a 23% improvement. While I don’t suggest you shouldn’t practice (or make healthy diet changes with regard to weight loss), I am simply highlighting the power and importance of visualization.
Imagine what you could accomplish if you combined visualization and positive action. How can visualization be used to lose weight? Visualization can be practiced for approximately ten minutes per session, several times per day. It may not feel natural at first but it is possible to become more consistent. Find a quiet spot and sit down or lie down. It will help if your eyes are closed. Imagine how great you will feel when you lose all that weight. Imagine yourself in front of the mirror, or shopping for the clothes you love.
Imagine all the compliments that you will get and how happy it will make you feel. These thoughts should be intense and vivid. You should really get lost in them. You can visualize with practice and consistency. So make sure you take a little time each day to visualize. Make sure to support your visualization with positive changes in your diet and regular exercise. Combining positive action with regular visualization can turbo-charge your weight loss efforts. As part of your new healthy lifestyle, don’t forget about visualization.
