    Do headaches make you feel drained? Do they slow down your productivity? Are they preventing you from living the life you want? These sentiments are shared by millions, if truth be known. Headaches are one of the most common ailments in our society. There are many causes of headaches, and there are many types.

    Types

    • Tension Headaches. Tension headaches can be caused by emotional or physical stress. This type of headache can cause a feeling of a tight grip on the head, similar to a vise. Tension headaches can sometimes cause a dull burning sensation above your eyes, as well as pain in the jaw and neck areas.
    • Migraine Headaches. This type of headache is caused when blood flow changes in the head. It is also known as vascular headaches. A migraine is characterized by severe headaches that cause severe pain to the head, such as throbbing pain, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, noise, and/or light. Variations in migraine recurrence and duration can vary from one person to the next. Some may feel the pain for only a few hours, while others may have to suffer it for several days. Others may have to endure the pain multiple times per week, while others may only experience migraines once in a few years.
    • Cluster Headaches. Have you ever experienced a severe, sudden headache that affects only one side of your head (usually the temple area or behind your eye)? This type of headache is known as a cluster headache. It is more common in men than it is in women. Cluster headaches usually occur at night and can last from 30 minutes to several days. This type of headaches is often caused by the habitual consumption of alcohol and cigarettes.
    • Chemical headaches are caused by headaches that occur after you have been exposed to chemicals like paint, varnish, insect spray, and cigarette smoke. To treat this, you should get away from the chemical source, take a deep breath, and drink lots of water to flush out the toxins. Other health issues may also be a cause of headaches.
    • A headache that is throbbing in your head may be a sign you have sinusitis or allergies. A headache can occur if you try to reduce your intake of caffeine. Eye pain that is severe or persistent should be treated immediately. This could indicate glaucoma. Headaches that are accompanied by fever, stiff necks, nausea, vomiting, and/or encephalitis may be signs of meningitis or encephalitis.

    There are many possibilities, as headaches are a common symptom that can accompany most medical conditions. Most headaches can be treated by taking care of yourself, even if they don’t accompany any other symptoms.
