Jealousy is described as an emotion which contributes to negative thoughts and feelings over something or someone of significance you’ve lost. This emotion is a mixture of different emotions like discontent, fear, anxiety, bitterness, self-pity, and anger.
If you are now in or been in a relationship, jealousy isn’t a stranger. Some say a little jealousy in a relationship is healthy but also much of it will surely break it. So if you are one of those that are always plagued with jealousy, here are six ways about how you can overcome it.
If you are feeling jealous towards somebody or something, the first thing you could do is acknowledge it. Denying that you are having these negative emotions will only make matters worse. Right? Admitting to yourself that you’re jealous will open your heart and mind. Thus, which makes you mentally stronger and making it easier for you to take care of it.
This is where it turns from bad to truly ugly. Comparison is similar to the fuel to the flame of jealousy. When you compare yourself to others you’ll only see the gaps and what’s negative about you. This will also result in self-loathing and anger. So as opposed to comparing, begin by enjoying these differences and identifying what makes you unique. Always consider yourself blessed instead of lacking.
If you do not love yourself then jealousy is sure. Someone who does not love themselves is like an empty vase which gets filled with stones and garbage which will eventually break it. Those stones are negative emotions and among them is jealousy. If you know how to enjoy yourself then you are not leaving any space for negative emotions to grow. You may feel a little jealousy once in a while but it is going to never linger and destroy you.
Whenever you feel jealous always ask yourself constructive questions such as, “Why am I feeling jealous?” , “Is this person really a threat to me and our relationship?” , “What good will come out from being jealous?” , “What lesson should I learn here?”, “What can I do to make things better?” Dig deep into yourself through those questions so that you may find clarity from doubt.
Shift your focus
Our emotions dictate our ideas. If you are feeling a negative emotion like jealousy, your thoughts concentrate on it. When this occurs you lose sight of this larger picture. It becomes increasingly hard for you to know yourself or the circumstance. If you start feeling jealous, try shifting your attention by changing your emotion. Watch a fantastic movie, listen to some joyful tune, go out for a walk, buy yourself something nice, or even better yet workout. These actions make you feel great thus driving you away from negative emotions and negative thoughts, leaving you with a clearer mind.
Sometimes you must confront it so as to take care of it. Speak with the person who’s the topic of your jealousy. Be open, honest and respectful about it but do not be hostile. This individual might even help you cope with or help you realize that there is nothing to be jealous about. Regardless of how things may end between you and that individual, you’ll quickly understand that jealousy shouldn’t play a part in it. On the other hand, if you believe you don’t have to speak to that individual then you simply need to acknowledge that your jealousy isn’t worth having anyway.
Just a Negative Emotion!
Jealousy, like any other negative emotion, can be handled. You simply have to have an open mind, a loving heart, and a peaceful spirit.
