Although I’ve written about this topic in previous posts, following a recent conversation, I feel the need to re-address the value of working toward a healthier immune system during and after treatment. The treatment of cancer has made some superb progress in the region of studying the body as a whole, and thus combining traditional procedures of therapy with alternative methods more than ever before.

However, in my view, a crucial message is still not being shared with cancer sufferers. That message is this: Cancer signs that an immune system gone awry; cancer therapy is immune suppressing; and rebuilding one’s immune system has to be a high priority after treatment. This breakdown begins for diverse reasons and becomes the silent reason for many health difficulties.
However, as important as I feel it is to know about this and hopefully stave of illness and disease by addressing how this breakdown starts, that’s not the point of this report. Nor is the purpose to write about the many things which could be done during therapy to encourage and build out immune responses.
Allow me to just say, “there ARE plenty of things which could be done”. The objective of this guide is to inform, encourage and equip cancer patients that are at the end of the treatment. Your own body has been ravaged by a deadly disease, but during therapy of various types both allopathic and holistic, you’re on the brink of remission. This is time for CELEBRATION, but it also a time for renewed vigilance regarding regaining complete wellbeing. There a many fantastic nutritional supplements, essential oils, herbs and exercises which build up one’s immune system.
But, I would like to concentrate on the simple notion that “you are what you eat”. All those other things are great, but what you eat day after day can either build you up, tear you down or keep you on your present suppressed state. To put it simply, your body requires organic, unprocessed food. Yes, you’re going to pay more for your food, but you’re worth it. I am very sad when I see somebody just finishing treatment in a public event and they’re busy eating all of the chemical stuffed, processed, genetically modified, sugary foods. Unknowingly they’re occasionally writing their epitaph.
Antioxidants are powerful chemicals in actual foods which keep our immune systems functioning powerful. Life itself induces cellular processes within our bodies which produce waste, some of which form free radicals. These highly reactive substances will need to be neutralized so they don’t do damage in our bodies. Damage that results from free radicals results in inflammation. A consistently large state of inflammation is regarded as a precursor to a lot of common ailments, such as cardiovascular disease and various forms of cancer.
The fantastic news is that given the right fuel, our bodies produce antioxidants to balance out this damage! Antioxidants bind to free radicals and suppress their harm. Vitamin E is contained in avocados, almonds and olive oil. Beta-carotene creates vitamin A, which is essential for bone health. Good sources are carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, chard and papayas. Lycopene is found in fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, papaya and watermelon. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, collard greens and broccoli. Anthocyanins are found in blue and purple foods such as blueberries, raspberries, plums, pomegranates, eggplant, and red cabbage.
Like anything else important to healthy living, it requires action of a sort to achieve profit. Be it exercise, good sleep habits, combating chemical abuses or a powerful immune system – you need to take action to find success.
