In our physical-obsessed society, many people think that being overweight is an aesthetic problem....

We’re unique in our understanding of the world, our abilities, energy levels, physical constitution and a number of other aspects. We’re also unique in the way we respond to different foods. For example, some people don’t have any issues with drinking milk, whereas others are lactose intolerant; some are allergic to yeast, wheat, eggs while others tolerate them well.

    Allergies

Being allergic to a chemical or food does not mean using an observable allergic reaction such as skin rash or sneezing. There are chemicals that we believe we tolerate because we do not have any observable allergic reactions to them. In reality we’re allergic to them. This sort of allergy ends in gastrointestinal problems, weight-related difficulties and others. The substances we’re allergic to are generally the ones we’re addicted to. Different changes are happening in the body to accommodate allergy-causing food and dangerous substances.

This way the body protects itself from the injury caused by them. This is referred to as a general adaptation syndrome (GAS) and was first described by Professor Hans Selye in 1956. Below are the steps of how we respond to various stimulants like cigarette, food or caffeine we’re allergic to – this could be yeast, wheat, milk and other foods we commonly consume. First step is known as the first response or alarm response. This is the way we respond to the substance once we attempt it for the first time: coughs once we smoke, jitters and a sleepless night after the first cup of coffee, etc..

This is how the body tells us that the material isn’t great for us. Unfortunately these signals are often ignored and the body goes into the next step called adaptation or resistance. At this second step the affected cells of the body are shifting to safeguard themselves from the harm caused by the substance. This procedure puts the body under plenty of stress. If we continue using the material over a period of time it will exhaust your system. Exhaustion is the next step of GAS. At this third phase physical problems starting to happen: digestive problems, high blood pressure, low energy level, etc.. This is the level in which body can’t adapt anymore.

    Good to know

The restoration is only possible if we stop consuming/using the offending substance. This might take a while. At this stage it’s necessary to get healthy diet and take vitamins and minerals to assist the healing procedure. If some time after we re-introduce the offending food or material into our life, the body will respond to it in precisely the exact same way it did at step one – the first reaction. At the recovery phase our body can become sensitive to other unhealthy chemicals which we tolerated earlier, such as food additives. This really means that your system is totally recovered and is trying to tell us what isn’t great for us the exact same way it did in step one.
